Our goal is to promote meaningful policy changes within schools to effectively prevent and address substance abuse among teenagers by integrating structured, engaging extracurricular activities into the educational system. We recognize that substance abuse among young people is often fueled by a combination of peer pressure, lack of supervision after school hours, emotional challenges, and limited access to positive recreational outlets. To counter these risks, we advocate for school environments that not only educate but also actively support the holistic development of students through safe, inclusive, and purpose-driven after-school programs.
A key component of this effort is securing sustainable government funding dedicated explicitly to extracurricular activities. By obtaining consistent financial support, schools can introduce and maintain a diverse range of programs—including sports, arts, mentorship sessions, life-skills training, and community engagement projects—that keep students meaningfully occupied beyond classroom hours. These activities provide healthy alternatives to risky behaviour and create opportunities for students to build confidence, uncover their talents, and form positive peer networks.
Additionally, government-backed extracurricular initiatives strengthen community involvement by encouraging parents, local organizations, and volunteers to participate in youth development. This shared responsibility fosters a supportive ecosystem where young people feel seen, guided, and connected to their community. As these programs expand, they not only reduce the incidence of substance abuse but also contribute to higher academic performance, improved mental health, and stronger social bonds among students.
Through advocating for policy reforms and championing government investment, we aim to establish a long-term, proactive approach to substance abuse prevention—one that empowers teenagers, supports schools, and mobilizes communities to work together in safeguarding the well-being and future of young people.
